Principle
It is made of a glass fibre membrane coated with colloidal gold-labelled recombinant syphilis antigen (Au-TP Ag), and a nitrocellulose membrane coated with recombinant syphilis antigen (TP Ag) and rabbit anti-TP antibodies, using colloidal gold immunodetection technology and chromatography to qualitatively detect Treponema pallidum antibodies in blood samples. During testing, syphilis antibodies in the blood sample bind to the colloidal gold-labelled antigen to form antigen-antibody complexes, which move forward along the test strip by chromatography. When passing the test line (T), they bind to the pre-coated antigen to form an "Au-TP Ag-TP Ab-TP Ag" sandwich, which aggregates and develops colour. Free colloidal gold-labelled syphilis antigen reaches the control line (C), where it binds to the pre-coated rabbit anti-TP antibodies and accumulates to develop colour. A negative specimen develops colour only at the control line (C).

Notes on test results
Negative result: A negative result can never absolutely guarantee that there are no low concentrations of Treponema pallidum antibodies in the blood sample, so the test should be repeated at different times.
